Travel Exceptions

Travel Exception Requirements

Before traveling outside the U.S., Dartmouth Travelers are responsible for determining if a location they are traveling to requires a Travel Exception. Travel Exception requests should be submitted at least 30 days prior to your planned departure date. Participating in Dartmouth Travel without an approved Travel Exception when one is required is prohibited; expenses for such travel will not be covered by Dartmouth. Read Dartmouth's Travel Safety Policy for more information.

If you do not need a Travel Exception or if your Travel Exception is approved, register your travel.

Travel Exceptions for Individuals

If you are traveling as part of a Dartmouth group or program (e.g., FSP, LSA, Tuck Go), apply for the Dartmouth program prior to requesting a Travel Exception. In most cases the organizers of a program will request a Travel Exception for the group; contact your group or program organizers to determine who will be submitting a Travel Exception request.

Travel Exception Support for Groups

If the student group travel will include destinations where a Travel Exception is required, the lead organizer can apply for a single travel exception for the group by listing all the travelers' names. Similarly, organizers must register their group's travel or ensure each participant registers their own travel in the Travel Registry

If you are organizing, administering, or funding Dartmouth Travel by students or as part of a Dartmouth group or program (e.g., FSP, LSA, Tuck Go), review Dartmouth's guidance for Organizing Student Travel for information on pre-departure orientation and oversight.
