Inaugural Matariki Lecture: Big Data & Health Care

On February 7, Denise Anthony, Vice Provost for Academic Initiatives and Professor of Sociology at Dartmouth, inaugurated the Matariki Network of Universities lecture series with a talk on Big Data, Cybersecurity, and Health Care as part of Queen’s University's Big Data 175th Anniversary series. As part of the lecture, Professor Anthony discussed Big Data's "great promise but also serious perils for healthcare...[and how]...[f]or the institution(s) of health care delivery, the use of Big Data will require changes in information governance that affect not only the security and privacy of health information, but also the role of patients, the profession of medicine, and the meaning of health itself."

Dartmouth is one of the seven founding members of the Matariki Network of Universities, which was established in 2011 to enable partner universities to enhance research collaborations, share ideas and expertise, and create innovative student and faculty exchange programs.
