Dartmouth Joins Amicus Brief on Executive Order on Immigration

Dartmouth College joined 16 other academic institutions as signatories to an amicus curiae brief filed on February 13, 2017 in the case of Darweesh et al. v. Trump et al., currently pending in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. An amicus curiae, or “friend of the court,” brief is filed by an entity that is not a party to a case, but who assists a court by offering information that bears on a case. The Darweesh et al. v. Trump et al. case challenges President Donald Trump’s executive order restricting immigration from seven designated countries and suspending refugee admissions to the United States. Among other things, the amicus brief signed by Dartmouth asserts that “safety and security concerns can be addressed in a manner that is consistent with the values America has always stood for, including the free flow of ideas and people across borders and the welcoming of immigrants to our universities.”
